A sick cat in Morocco wandered up to a vet clinic and wound up with the perfect job

In this hump-day issue, one lucky cat goes from patient to nurse, the HOA goes after a young mother and her chalk art, and succulents get an amazing glow-up from scientists in China.

Last life, best life!

A sick cat named Rico may have thought he was at death’s door, but the person who answered wasn’t the Grim Reaper. It was veterinarian Meryem Imrani who found the shivering kitty and nursed him back to health.

"It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made."

Meryem Imrani

As Ryan Reed reports, Imrani soon realized her now-healthy cat needed a home. Like any true cat person, she kept him. Now he comforts anxious patients, keeps sick kittens company, and works full-time as the clinic’s resident “emotional support” cat.

The Universal Cat Distribution System gets it right again.

Where do your animal loyalties lie?

And what did we learn?

Yesterday, we talked about what a lot of people won’t; the side effects of Semaglutide meds. How do GOOD readers feel about the latest medical miracle? Apparently, you’re suspicious.

  • It's changed my life (13.3%)

  • Helpful, but not for everyone (26.7%)

  • I’m staying cautious for now (23.3%)

  • I'm just waiting for the class-action ads to start (36.7%)

Reader Courtney Bryant put it simply. “Seems like the new phen-phen to me. We know how that turned out...”

Chalk this one up to taking the higher road

We’ve already established that our GOOD readers don’t love an HOA, and this story isn’t going to do them any favors. Mackenzie, a 32-year-old mother of three in Alabama, loves creating fun sidewalk chalk art with her two-year-old. You guessed it! The HOA sent her an email with a complaint. For good measure, they threw in a reminder about the neighborhood curfew. Charming.

Mackenzie could have gone to war over the issue, but instead she decided to model some good behavior. Now, every morning, she takes the chalk and hits the sidewalk to lay down sea creatures, florals, and other whimsical pieces, including positive messages. “Something that might make a neighbor smile on their morning walk or scroll on TikTok.”

Read the story by Mark Wales to see some of Mackenzie’s art and read her thoughts on what is and isn’t worth your positive energy.

This is going to cost me a lot of money.

My wife adores succulants! And who can blame her? The little plants are low-maintenance and adorable. But now that Shuting Liu and his team of scientists at South China Agricultural University have given them a true glow-up!

“I just find it incredible that an entirely human-made, micro-scale material can come together so seamlessly with the natural structure of a plant.”

Shuting Liu

By leveraging light-emitting phosphor particles about the size of blood cells, they’ve worked out how to make them glow in a wide variety of colors. The process is surprisingly fast and inexpensive. As Mark Wales reports, the plans for the plants go beyond the inevitable garden department shelves at Home Depot. Imagine sustainable, plant-based lighting as an option for urban planners.
