You’ve seen the clips, now meet the man behind the habit.

Fr. Hyacinth Marie Cordell, a Dominican priest from Philadelphia, has racked up nearly 200K Instagram followers by doing something wildly unexpected: posting jaw-droppingly complex drum covers in his white robes. From jazz-fusion freakouts to Meshuggah’s double-kick blitzes, he’s become a hero to everyone from prog nerds to actual priests.

But he’s not in it for fame. In this GOOD exclusive by Ryan Reed, Fr. Hyacinth opens up about his spiritual path, his prog-rock Mount Rushmore (spoiler: Gentle Giant gets a spot), and why he believes rhythm can point people to something bigger, whether that’s God or just a killer groove.

Come for the “fire from the friar” jokes. Stay for the humility, heart, and some seriously holy chops.

From counterculture to cutting-edge anti-aging research, psilocybin is rewriting the rulebook.

Once a counterculture badge of honor, psilocybin, the active ingredient in magic mushrooms, is getting a serious scientific glow-up. In a July 2025 study out of Baylor College of Medicine, researchers found that psilocybin didn’t just alter consciousness, it extended the lifespan of human cells by up to 57%. Aged mice treated with the compound even looked healthier, with improved fur quality and survival rates. And here I thought mushrooms’ only real power was making me turn my nose up at a pasta dish. Yuck.

As Ryan Reed reports, Dr. Louise Hecker, one of the study’s senior authors, calls it “an exciting new chapter in psychedelic research,” pointing to psilocybin’s effects beyond the brain, think anti-aging at the cellular level. Fellow researcher Dr. Kosuke Kato said the impacts were “dramatic,” even when used late in life.

Turns out, this isn’t your uncle’s Woodstock trip anymore.
