Harrison Ford gives a moving answer about life's meaning
An unexpected answer from a screen legend, a 700% surge in people leaving donor lists, and a growing trend of Americans ditching work for what they call “mini-retirement.”
“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.”

Turns out he’s whip-smart.
When you think of Harrison Ford, you picture the roguish smirk, the gruff one-liners, maybe even the whip-cracking bravado*. But the real Ford? He’s more Shrinking than Star Wars. Thoughtful. Wry. Surprisingly profound.
In a conversation with NPR’s Wild Card with Rachel Martin, Ford revealed what feels like prayer to him. His answer wasn’t about pews or prophets but something far wilder: “My God was nature,” he said, explaining that everything we credit to divinity, the mystery, the order, the beauty, he finds in the natural world.
As Ryan Reed reports, it’s not the first time he’s gone deep on this. With a background in philosophy and a lifelong passion for conservation, Ford has long blended grit with awe.
* - The Harrison Ford I know is from flight training, specifically on how not to land on taxiways like a lunatic.

Organ donor lists are plummeting. Was it bad reporting or something worse?
Registering as an organ donor in some states is as easy as ticking a box when you renew your license. More than 170 million Americans have pledged to give the ultimate gift, but one report is giving many people second thoughts.
As Mark Wales reports, one investigation by The New York Times sent people rushing to unregister as organ donors at record-breaking levels. Nonprofits say the 700% uptick is the single most significant spike in removals ever recorded, and patients on transplant waitlists could pay the price.
Was the reporting irresponsible? Or did it expose cracks the public deserves to know about? Depends on who you ask.
Wait, I thought we already had a word for this?
My first thought when I read this story by Mark Wales was that Gen Z was Columbusing the idea of vacation. But this isn’t that. And it’s not just Gen Z. It’s everyone.
Boomers want wellness. Millennials want family time. Gen Z’s chasing purpose. Gen X just wants out. Across the board, workers are abandoning the idea of saving it all for a someday retirement and opting for multiple “mini-retirements” instead. These career breaks last from a few months to a year. And yes, they’re dipping into savings to do it.
Nearly 4 in 10 Americans are planning one of these breaks. They’re not waiting for the gold watch and goodbye sheet cake. They're logging off now, while they still have the knees to hike Patagonia. And science? Oh, science is on board.
