Video evidence of motherly superpowers

Moms seem to have magic eyes, our drone eyes-in-the-skies can help save our pets, and we may have found a powerful new ally in the fight against neurodegenerative diseases.

It’ll take more than a blindfold to keep a mom from her child.

We’ve all felt it: the Mom Sense. That eerie, omnipresent energy that lets her yell “Don’t you dare!” from across the house, seconds before you were about to dare. The sixth sense that detects cookie crumbs on your shirt without looking. The uncanny ability to hear you mutter under your breath from three rooms away.

In this story by Mark Wales, a blindfolded mom was put in front of a lineup of kids, you could guess what happened next, but it’s still wildly satisfying to watch. She moves down the row, running her hands over shoulders and hair. When she reaches her son, there’s a subtle but seismic shift. Her hands linger. She brushes his hair, traces his face, and pulls him into a hug so fierce he cries. And yes, we cried too.

What motherly superpower is the most impressive

From the mind-blowing to the fun-wrecking, moms are equipped with magic.

And what did we learn?

Yesterday’s poll asked what was the second best way to blow off steam (now that science says we can’t just break things!). And, no stress here, we had a clear winner.

  • 🧘 Slow-breathing zen master mode (77.0%)

  • 🎾 Hit a ball (and pretend it’s your boss) (4.1%)

  • 🎤 Scream-sing your favorite breakup song (10.8%)

  • 🛋️ Lie down and plot elaborate revenge in your head (8.1%)

Former Zillow exec targets $1.3T market

The wealthiest companies tend to target the biggest markets. For example, NVIDIA skyrocketed nearly 200% higher in the last year with the $214B AI market’s tailwind.

That’s why investors are so excited about Pacaso.

Created by a former Zillow exec, Pacaso brings co-ownership to a $1.3 trillion real estate market. And by handing keys to 2,000+ happy homeowners, they’ve made $110M+ in gross profit to date. They even reserved the Nasdaq ticker PCSO.

No wonder the same VCs behind Uber, Venmo, and eBay also invested in Pacaso. And for just $2.90/share, you can join them as an early-stage Pacaso investor today.

🐕 A coyote closed in, then a drone pilot went full action hero

A high-tech search in the Arkansas wilderness took a heart-pounding turn.

Whiskey the dachshund slipped out of his Arkansas yard and vanished into the kind of forest where coyotes hunt. Four days passed. No sign. Hope was fading.

Enter Chris Laughlin, drone pilot, rescuer, and, as Ryan Reed reports, unexpected action star. Flying a thermal-camera quadcopter over the trees, he finally spotted Whiskey… and a coyote closing in fast.

What happened next was pure split-second adrenaline. Laughlin dove the drone into the predator’s path, blasting it with prop wash and forcing it back. Whiskey bolted free, shaken but alive, with only a few scratches and one heck of a survival story.

This brain protein doesn’t just fight Alzheimer’s. It rebuilds what was lost.

In the war against the cruelty of neurodegenerative diseases, Professor Bonnie Firestein has found a surprising ally. Her Rutgers team has uncovered a new role for a familiar protein called cypin, one that helps neurons keep their communication lines strong. When those lines break down, memory and thinking start to slip away.

After two decades studying cypin, Firestein’s lab discovered it helps “tag” the right proteins at synapses, the tiny spaces where brain cells talk. More cypin means more of those vital proteins in place, and that could be the difference between a brain that fades and one that stays connected.

The work is still early, but it points toward treatments that could one day slow Alzheimer’s, protect against cognitive decline, and even help the brain recover from injury. The next chapter could be huge.

I’d watched this a dozen times before realizing it was subtitled. There’s something about a Haka that is mesmerizing, and the harmonies here will tickle your brain.

Until tomorrow, may you get away with whatever it is your mom is about to yell at you about.
